Title: Treachery Rating: PG-13 Word Count: 125 Pairing: Jon/Zahir Round/Fight: 1/A Summary: Treachery is everywhere.
Zahir has heard of treachery, in the deserts, in the weather, in people. Joren’s malice towards the Girl is hardly the worst he has seen, but it is not something he wants a part of. Hatred is for those with a dark heart, and a cruel mind. All that matters is power, and this is why he worries of his king’s intentions.
It is when Jon recants the stories of his youth that Zahir learns his knight-master’s heart is pure. He learns of his cousin’s treachery, of Jon’s sickness, of his parents’ death, the truth of how he was sent to be consumed by the Ysandir, but instead conquered them. These stories not only banish Zahir’s doubts, but bind him more faithfully to his king.

Very lovely. I like how the bad rumors make the eventual loyalty even stronger. I also like the idea of Zahir being bound (in a non-sexual manner) to Jon.

I love the contrast in this, actually. How these stories of treachery, conversely, later inspire further loyalty in Zahir.
