Title: Red Thread Rating: PG Word Count: 225 Pairing: Lark/Rosethorn Round/Fight: 1/B Summary: Lark tries to heal Rosethorn
Rosethorn had asked her to. Really, that was Lark’s only motivation. And everyone seemed to think it would help. If she wove it- Gyongxe, the war- into a tapestry and then burnt it, perhaps it would help. Lark was, after all, an ambient thread mage. And it was for Rosie.
Rosie who was broken from war; Rosie who woke screaming in the night; Rosie who still kept clothes stained with blood.
Lark rolled up her sleeves. She would do it.
***
Lark gazed at the intricate threading as she wove the tapestry. She had already asked the earth temple for more red thread three times- or was it four?
The horrors sprang to life under her fingers- mingled with her tears- Lark’s, and Rosethorn’s when she came to tell her story, and to watch.
Lark wove where the blood ran in the gutters. The gleam of fiery arrows as they struck home. Smoke of war rose over fields of grain, woven, again and again. And then the horrors on the faces of the survivors as she wove them near the edge, gazing on the piles of bodies, the bright swords, and the blood. She wove pain into people’s faces, and valour on the faces of the soldiers, and death’s cold touch on the faces of too many to count.
But still- she needed more red thread.

Ooohhhh, that's intense. But I love how you portrayed Lark's reluctance to do something so soul-searing, but her willingness for someone she loved. Because Rosie needed it, eh?
Great job.

Oh, I have such goosebumps from this. Actually shivered when I read the last line. What an interesting idea, and the description was incredible. Read the last line again and shivered again. lol. SO good.

Thank you! The idea kind of creeps me out too- it's abstract, but I know what it means. I'm glad you all like this fic!

Ooooh, so haunting! The symbolic red thread - and how there was never enough, after many requests - really drove the point home...and how much healing there was to be done. Fantastic story-telling!
