Title: Rain Rating: PG Word Count: 225 Pairing: Lark/Rosethorn Round/Fight: 1/B Summary: Rosethorn thinks the rain is different, now.
Rosethorn always found rain to be rather nourishing. Like her plants, it provided her with nourishment and made her stronger, made her happier.
But now it just sounded like tears as she told Lark her story of war. War. It almost didn’t seem real, like it was only a nightmare in some far off place, and when she woke up, it would be all right again. But it wasn’t. It was all too horrible; all too real.
“You came home Rosie,” Lark says, when her story is finished. And Lark is careful to keep any sign of frailty from her voice, because she knows that right now Rosethorn needs a pillar to lean on. “You came home.”
“So many people didn’t.” The tears on her face matched the drops of rain that ran down the window.
“I heard the news,” says Lark, letting Rosethorn lean on her, wrapping her arms around Rosethorn’s body like a protection against her nightmares. “You saved hundreds of lives, Rosie.”
“It doesn’t make up for the thousands who are dead.”
“No,” Lark agreed. “It doesn’t. But you’re home, Rosie. You’re home with me. Now you can heal.”
Rosethorn turns and kisses her. “Thank you, Lark.”
And together they stood- Lark with her arms wrapped around Rosethorn, who leaned on Lark- and watched as the sun broke through the rain clouds.

The last sentence is so symbolic, I can't help but feel hope for them.

“You came home Rosie,” Lark says, when her story is finished. And Lark is careful to keep any sign of frailty from her voice, because she knows that right now Rosethorn needs a pillar to lean on. “You came home.” I love this line and the acknowledgement that what Rosie really needs is a pillar, even if others might think she's a rock. Mmm. I hope they do heal, both of them together, the way the sunlight made its way through the clouds.
