Title: Trouble Rating: G Word Count: 248 Pairing: Lark/Rosethorn Round/Fight: 1/B Summary: Evaluating the new residents
“What do you think of the boy?” Rosethorn was washing the dishes, stacking them carefully on a towel to dry.
“He's got a lot of power,” Lark replied, picking at the wool she was carding. Glaring at it until it behaved, she glanced up to watch Rosethorn place her hands on her hips.
“Just enough power to get into trouble, I suppose,” she grumbled. Pushing her hair back from her face, she sat next to Lark, enjoying the momentary quiet while the children were out with Niko for lessons.
“Tris worries me,” Lark finally said. “She's got so much bottled up in her.” She felt bad for the girl, though she couldn't seem to get through to her.
“Yes. But Briar gets along with her. They're both... prickly.” It was the only word Rosethorn could think of to describe their interactions. “Like siblings,” she added.
“Very much.” Setting aside her work, Lark folded her hands in her lap. “Sandry is promising already, though. And Frostpine says he couldn't have a better student than Daja.”
The silence settled over them comfortably for a few minutes while they basked in the mid-afternoon sun. “They're trouble,” Rosethorn said firmly, as she stood.
“If we wanted the quiet life Rosie, we never should've become dedicates,” Lark teased, smiling as Rosethorn retreated into her work area. She, for one, was excited to have a new student. Life was so dull without them around to entertain her.

Aww, this is cute! I love that Rosethorn describes them as prickly, it's such a plant-ish word.

This is so domestic and lovely. (: I love Rosethorn's description of Briar and Tris as 'prickly...like siblings.' Perhaps because it very much reminds me of my interactions with my brother, whom I am missing at the moment (but I know we would just tease each other ruthless if we greeted each other again right now). Lovely story!
