Title: Reminder Rating: G Word Count: 214 Pairing: Rosethorn/Lark - Team Discipline Round/Fight: 1B Summary: Set shortly after The Healing in the Vine.
She dreamed of the garden.
With every passing night it grew bigger and wilder; weeds poking out from under her feet and crisp, dry leaves that she could crumple in her hand with a crackle. The shadows flickered around her, grey and dark, trying to draw her in. Some nights she woke up sweating, others she squeezed her eyes shut, trying to recapture the garden in the blackness behind her eyelids.
Some nights she would wake up and stare at the ceiling. Lark’s body was warm beside her, fitting into her curves and hard angles easily, as if that was where she belonged. Rosethorn liked the way they fitted together.
Still, she dreamed of the garden. Sometimes Briar was there, older, but with the same cheeky grin; there was tenderness hidden behind it, she knew, and that made her want to reach out to him even more, be what he needed, the mother he couldn’t remember.
But every morning the sun shone in through her window, making her blink, and she found herself back in bed with Lark moving sleepily beside her. At times, she wished that the dreams would stop, that they’d leave her in peace. But every night she found herself walking down the path, her feet bare and her heart sore.

This is stunning - I love the idea that Rosethorn's torn between wanting life and wanting afterlife.

I love the little hint of Rosethorn/Briar, and I love the sadness of Briar and the mother he can't remember. I'm also glad Lark is there to ground Rosie to thing life.

This is amazing. I love how she feels at home with the living but still dreams of the garden.

I can imagine seeing death the way Rosethorn has would irrevocably change her dealings with life - I can very much see that happening most in her dreams, as well. The idea of Briar as a son figure was heartbreaking in how torn Rosethorn is about it all. Beautiful piece!
