Title: Doll
Rating: PG
Word Count: 342
Pairing: Rosethorn and Lark
Round/Fight: 2B
Summary: The first time Daja realized that the others didn’t know that Rosethorn and Lark were lovers was after the epidemic and Rosethorn’s resurrection. Second in the Realizations series.
The first time Daja realized that the others didn’t know that Rosethorn and Lark were lovers was after the epidemic and Rosethorn’s resurrection. They were up on the roof during their rest period watching clouds form. For the most part they were quiet, simply reveling in the sensation of being alive – something all of them had a new appreciation for after almost losing Rosethorn and Briar.
Finally, Tris broke the silence, saying, “Do you think that Crane and Rosethorn are …” She trailed off but Briar took up the thread.
“Maybe. They do work well together, and they argue like an old married couple,” he said.
It took Daja a few seconds to understand what they were talking about, but when she did, she almost fell off the roof in shock. How could they not see how Rosethorn and Lark interacted, Rosethorn treating Lark like a porcelain doll, something precious and breakable, and how Lark was always happier when Rosethorn was around, no matter how tempestuous a mood the thorny woman was in?
She listened shocked, as Tris and Briar continued to talk excitedly about the plant mages’ interactions and how they blatantly showed their love. And they are right, I guess, but it’s in the same way that I love Briar, like a brother, Daja mused. I guess it just isn’t as obvious to them. I wonder why Sandry hasn’t added in yet. She never stays silent during things like this. Does she know-.
Her thoughts were cut off by Sandry asking mentally, Do you think they’re right? They seem more like competitors or siblings to me.
Daja ignored the question, replying, What about Rosethorn and Lark?
Oh! I thought that I was the only one who noticed. When Lark was taking care of Rosethorn, I realized.
I thought that everyone already knew, Daja admitted. Do you think we should tell them?
Let’s let them figure it out by themselves. Briar’ll be fine with it probably, but I don’t know about Tris. Rosethorn and Lark have earned some peace.
