Summary: The first time they go on a date, neither of them even realize it.
The Fifth in a series of the couple's firsts.
The first time she met Mattes outside of work, it was a complete accident (or so she thought). He literally bumped into her in the day market. As she turned to apologize, she noticed his familiar smile and gave one of her own. “Be more careful, you looby!” she chastised, “With all of you there a mot could be traumatized from a run in with you!”
“’Traumatized’ is not the world I would hope for, but you can call it whatever you like.” He responded with a twinkle in his eye. He hadn’t stepped away from her and she couldn’t help but admit she liked the feel of his body this close to hers.
They grabbed a light lunch, eating pasties from a nice lady named Deidry Noll and sitting on the edge of a fountain. She laughed at all his jokes and he even was willing to split the apple pasty he had bought for his desert.
It wasn’t until the washing women at the fountain told them to take it to their own place if their “frisking” was going to get any more serious that she noticed what it looked like. She flushed, much to the washer womens' giggles and Mattes's entertainment. He leaned in and took her waist, leading her away, snug against his hip. “Want to take them up on that, deary?” He mumbled.
She couldn’t find it in her to saw “no”, but she didn’t say “yes” either.
“Progress” he thought.
