Summary: He wonders if she will spot his ulterior motive.
Mattes had always noticed the changes in her hair. It was dark, right on the border between deep brown and black, and it changed depending on the light. It wasn’t uncommon for Mattes to amuse himself by silently debating with himself whether her hair was brown or black at that particular point in time. He knew her eyes were brown, of course, but usually the most attention he paid to them was checking to make sure they weren’t either glaring at him or rolling in exasperation.
Perhaps that’s why his sudden captivation with her eyes surprised him so much. He decided it must be the morning light that caused them to shine like that, and he resolved to make sure she woke up in his bed again - just so he could admire her eyes, of course. He grinned and kissed her good morning.
