Summary: Mattes misses Mistress Noll
“I wish it hadn’t been Mistress Noll,” Mattes said, kicking at the ground.
Clary fixed him with beady eyes, and he had the feeling he was about to get in trouble.
“You know, I wish she hadn’t-”
“Hadn’t what, Mattes?” Clary asked, not in the usual way she had for telling him off when he yammered on. This had a faintly dangerous air, but Mattes knew she wouldn’t be fooled if he tried to salvage things now.
“Oh, fine. I miss her pastries. Nobody that evil should be that - ouch!”
Clary patted his arm, at the point she had just hit. “Mayhap another baker will win your belly’s love soon.”
