Summary: Clary isn’t like chrysanthemums.
“Good morning.” Clary closed the door behind her. “How are you feeling?”
“I’m feeling. Is that good?”
Clary smiled, and sat on the edge of his bed. “I suppose so. Look, I brought you some flowers. I know you prefer roses, but these were growing in the garden and they’ll add some colour.”
“You’re not like a chrysanthemum,” Mattes insisted. “They’re too fluffy. You’re like a rose, with all the prickly thorns but still beautiful and sweet.” He settled back down against the pillows, apparently satisfied with what he’d said. “I like roses.”
Clary couldn’t hold back her grin of amusement. “The healer said you were still a little cracknobbed from the healing.” She leaned over and kissed him on the forehead. “Rest a bit more, I’ll go and find a vase for these.”
