Summary: There’s a first time for everything.
Clary Goodwin was clever, sharp, and always spoke her mind. She was often scolding Mattes for his chattering, but he knew that it took two to hold a conversation. She always had something to say – an answer, an order, a comment – to everyone, and Mattes was used to it.
Speechlessness was the last thing he expected – he’d been certain when he’d grabbed her and kissed her that he’d get at least an earful and a bruise. Instead, a grin slowly spread over his face as he realised that this was the first time he had ever – ever – seen Clary Goodwin lost for words.
