Title: Peanut Butter Rating: PG Word Count: 211 Pairing: Clary/Mattes Round/Fight: 2/B Summary: Paramedic!AU. Mattes’ thoughts about his partner. A/N: It got a bit too sentimental at the end for my liking, but I’m sure it still works. Title from a Charlie Brown quote.
Sure, Clary was an attractive woman. He could see that. She could even be pleasant, and funny, when she wanted to be. Somehow, though, he managed to fold all of that into a little box and tuck it away, out of reach. They were partners. They needed to be able to trust and rely on each other, and no matter what his feelings for her were—or could be—he also knew that there was no way in hell he could risk stuffing up what they had now. It was difficult to remember that, sometimes. Because he wasn’t only attracted to her hair, and her smile, and her laugh, and the way she snorted and almost choked that one time when he told her that joke about the gorilla. He liked things about her that he didn’t even know yet. He liked stupid, little things, like the fact that she couldn’t cook and she never walked under ladders. He liked it when she had both hands, frantic and bloody, on some poor bastard’s chest, shouting orders and saving lives. He liked her competency, that she was as far past competent as he’d ever seen. He folded it all carefully into a little box, and tucked it away, close to his heart. QC by: journeycat

Lol, I almost snorted, choked, and spat coffee all over the laptop at the snorting and choking bit. Awesome fic! I really like the tone of it. It's very Mattes.
