Summary: A Dog must work in all conditions. The introduction to a series.
Day in and day out, the Dog’s were on duty. It didn’t matter the weather, or the heat or the cold. When Clary had joined the guard, her mother had chastised her, asking what kind of man would want a woman covered in muck and mud. She had responded that the man would have to be covered himself.
She was out with her partner, in the rain, the snow, the hail. Maybe it was this, she pondered as another rat threw her into the mud of a back alley, that made partners so close. If you could go day in and day out with a person covered in all kinds of disgusting, could laugh and joke even when drenched, or be happy to split a meal even in the freezing snow, then maybe they could get through anything.
