Title: Stay (2)

Summary: Mattes wants to stay, even if she wants him to go. A series loosely based on "Stand By" By Senit.
He knew that she preferred when he left after their nights together. But he did not. He liked to stay by her, keep her close. Mostly it was just to ensure that they were both safe, both still alive after another night in the Cesspool. So even when she did protest, which wasn’t often, he would pull her flush to his chest and pull on a blanket and not let go.
For those hours when he fell asleep next to her, when he woke to her in the morning, he would pretend that they had never fought, or that she had never gone crooked. He would pretend that Tom did not exist and that he was not only here because her husband was not. He would act as those the years upon years since their time hadn’t passed and that he could still call her his.
When he was with her, it was ecstasy; he lost connection and only had her holding onto him and onto the world. She was his link. He was able to breath, only one at a time, to keep his sanity there. He matches his breaths with hers and holds onto reality.
