Title: Scratch Rating: G Word Count: 214 Pairing: Clary/Mattes Round/Fight: 2/B Summary: Mattes is injured, but says it’s nothing. Clary finds herself forced to trust him. Set in the Lies universe.
-
“It’s just a scratch,” Mattes says.
It’s more than a scratch. Bruising and a deep cut. If he was my Puppy, I’d order him off the streets in an instant and in search of a healer. I could do it now. Any Dog who paid attention to their sarden training would give him a nap tap if he complained and cart him off to the healers.
I’m not a sarden harebrained fool who fell off yesterday’s cabbage cart. I can see the way he’s limping. But I can also see the sullen suspicion in his eyes, the way he sets his shoulders and flinches when I reach for my baton.
Goddess help us all, you’d think I was a monster.
He’s a grown Dog. He knows better. I heave a deep sigh and say, “We’re going to the healer at the end of our Watch.” No argument. Trust Mattes to tell me if something really is wrong. Nyler takes our hobbled Rats without so much as a raised eyebrow, Goddess bless. Problems between partners stays between partners. He knows it isn’t his business to interfere.
I don’t look back at Mattes limping as I keep walking. Fine. If he wants to be a sarden fool, let him.
I don’t know why I’m so angry.

I like how she is willing to let him suffer and yet forces him to be healed. Great job!

Eee, I LOVE that you've used the monster line but adapted it slightly. ;D
