Title: Pretty/Tough Rating: PG Word Count: 173 Pairing: Team Girl Power Round/Fight: 1/B Summary: If you're lucky, you'll have someone to make you better too.
Queen Thayet is not a soft touch, and there is nothing uncertain, or delicate about her first in command, Buriram. Their minds, bodies, are worked to the standards of a man’s regiment and their decisions can be hard edged, even ruthless, as needed.
Still, it’s the younger woman who shows Thayet how to be gentle in motherhood. Buri who in passing, places a quiet kiss on her finger tips, and smoothes those same fingers across the baby Roald’s forehead. The prince’s screams dip, and swell, before he’s lulled into the rhythm of a warm embrace.
Roald falls asleep. His fingers are curled around the tip of Buriram’s braid.
Thayet sometimes thinks that there are so many demands made of women, too many people to be. She is afraid that she can not possibly be them all, as they are needed, though she is bound by obligation to try.
Later, with her own hands wrapped in Buri’s hair, and the pleasant curve of Buri’s mouth on her neck, Thayet admits the possibility of defeat.

This is gorgeous - the imagery is just lovely, and almost reads like poetry. I love how this is an exploration of both Buri/Thayet and womanhood.

This is beautifully written, and says so much in so little space.

I love the idea of catching Thayet surprised. She's a great character but comes across as way too perfect for my liking. I like watching Buri gentle baby Roald and easing the stresses put on Thayet. Love love love all around.
