Summary: Buri can't do it anymore.

“I can’t do this anymore.” She had thought that she would yell, that her words would be cut sharply and harshly, but she simply sounds exhausted. “I’m sorry. It’s been twenty years, Thayet, and we’re still never together.”
“But we are.” Thayet’s hand is pressed to her cheekbone, an old trick she uses to keep from crying. “We’ve been together for forever and a day.”
“We’re not together in the way we should be. In the way we want.”
“Because you keep leaving-”
Buri shakes her head. Her hair swings and hits the side of her face. “You left first.”
“I had no other choice! It was the right thing to do.”
“Maybe for you, but not for me. It’s too hard to love you the way I want.” She has to go now, she can’t do this anymore, she has to leave the queen standing behind her and she can’t look back. She’ll go to her office to do paperwork, that’s what she’ll do, and maybe if she's lucky she’ll wake up tomorrow and all the pain will be gone.
Barely half a bell has passed when Keladry knocks on her door with a friendly invitation from Raoul. She needs the distraction, and so Buri accepts.
