Title: Places that I've Been Rating: PG Wordcount: 147 Pairing: Team Girl Power (Buri/Thayet) Round: 1/B Summary: Buri and Yuki discuss their adopted homeland. (Italicized text is quoted from the song "Book of Love" by Dar Williams and excluded from word count.)
This is who I am All the places that I've been
The coast of Tortall is barely in sight: beaches, forests and mountains, always on the eastern horizon.
“Have you seen it all?” Yukimi asks, leaning on the rail beside me. “Up close, I mean — all of Tortall?”
It’s been twenty years since I disembarked from that ship in Port Caynn; almost ten since Thayet resigned from the Riders. I grin. “Very nearly.”
“With the Riders, and Her Majesty?” Yuki and I have become friends these last months, and some of my bluntness is beginning to rub off on the young Yamani.
I keep my eyes on the horizon. “With the Riders. Thayet and I never had much chance to travel together.”
“Being queen must take up so much of one’s time.” Her eyes crinkle with amusement, but there’s something wistful in her voice.
Of course there is. She came here with a princess, too.

Okay, so hands down on of my favorite SMACKDOWN fics so far - I love, love, love the idea that Yuki and Buri can relate in such a beautiful, almost sadly wistful way.

Wow, this is so unique, and I love how you've made them similar but not the same.

*flail* I love where you went with this. One of the things I like best about SMACKDOWN is how many ways a pairing might be accessed through differing POVs, and this chapter was the perfect example of that.
