Title: Regret
Rating: PG
Word Count: 272
Pairing: Team Scheme (Aly/Taybur)
Round/Fight: 1/D
Summary: Aly has regrets.
Aly sat on a bench by the water, flicking a hand at a few of the bugs that crawled up her arm. In her seventh month of pregnancy, she was incredibly sensitive to any touch upon her skin and the tickling of their legs irritated her. Her Sight noted that the repellent spells on the bench needed renewing.
With a groan, she readjusted herself to a more comfortable position.
“You might want to be more careful with yourself. Move a little more and you’ll spill clear off that seat.” The voice, although quiet, carried over the small distance between the gazebo and the lake.
“You might want to tell that to the children kicking in there,” Aly replied, gesturing at her rounded stomach. “They’re as crotchety as their grandmother when she’s a bee in her bonnet.”
“Sounds more like they’re as testy as their mother.”
Aly threw a withering look over her shoulder. “Come, stand in front of me then and I’ll let you find out for yourself how much of a kick they have. And come out of the shadows, it makes you seem creepy.”
Taybur couldn’t help a smile.
“Taybur.”
“Aly.”
“Do you remember the first time we were here, in this place, together?” Aly drew little circles on her belly with her index finger. Little lights from the other pavilions danced across the water, throwing the scenery around them into an almost eerie twilight. “How you said you had no intentions on my virtue?”
“I remember. You said I was no fun.”
Aly, in the quietest, most solemn voice he’d ever heard her use, whispered, “I wish you had.”
