Title: Space Rating: G Word count: 216 Pairing: Clary/Mattes Round/Fight: 4/A Summary: Clary and Mattes are at a launch centre, investigating something pertaining to NASA. Well, sort of. Set in the DeadAlive universe, where Clary and Mattes are FBI agents. Based on an X-Files quote.

I sigh when I see Mattes watching the shuttle launch. We’re here to investigate, not to watch the shuttle go up into space, for goodness’ sake. Sometimes, I think that Mattes has a child in him. That boy surfaces at the oddest of things: whether it’s when we’re grabbing a quick burrito at the store, or even…at a space shuttle launch.
“Mattes!” I call, and then grumble when his face is still firmly pressed to the window. “Mattes, get your sarden head back on the case!”
He half-glances back, and shoots me a wounded look. “You never wanted to be an astronaut when you were a kid, Clary?”
“Guess I missed that phase,” I say with a shrug.
In any case, Mattes got the point, and tore his eyes away from the window. “Still, I have to admit, that fulfilled one of my boyhood fantasies.”
“Yes, it ranks right up there with getting a pony and braiding my own hair,” I say sardonically.
Mattes throws his hands up in the air and surrenders. “Alright,” he concedes, “So, where are we starting from?”
And before I know it, he’s Agent Tunstall again, sharp and focused, and listening to me as I explain what I’ve found. Only Mattes, I think, almost amused at this stark contrast in attitude.
