Title: Water Lily (Photo #13) Rating: PG Word count: 186 Pairing: Clary/Mattes Round/Fight: 4/A Summary: Mates makes her stop to look at the little things in life.
Note: A series based on the photos in a list of 100 beautiful examples of photo manipulation.
Clary looked out over the small garden that had been a part of the home. And a part of the murder scene. Shrubs, perfect for hiding, a number of large flower beds and a small pond. More the type of place you would expect a wealth landlord to dine with friends than to die. “It’s pretty, isn’t it?” Mattes voice caused her to jump his statement startling her just as much as his stealth.
“A murder scene? I never find death very beautiful.” She shrugged off the hand on her shoulder and moved towards the water’s edge. Maybe there would be a little friend there to calm her nerves.
“Look past the death, Clary. The garden is pretty, if you ignore the blood splattered parts. Just look at this.” He pointed into the water with one hand, the other sneaking around her waist in a semblance for the need of balance. “A water lily, so perfect and pretty. Don’t look back there; look here, at the little things.” She couldn’t help but lean into him, a silent thanks for the perspective he always seemed to bring.

Aww, adorable! I love Mattes's sneaky 'I need to balance myself' move.
