Title: Sun
Rating: G
Word Count: 278 words
Pairing: Kel/Maura
Round/Fight: 1/C
Summary: Both take joy in a lazy spring day.
Maura sits in the solarium of Dunlath proper, finishing a morning cup of tea and munching on the last of her toast as she pulls up a stack of papers on the output of this year’s logging. Happy in the watery winter sun, she smiles, enjoying the quite moments between disasters. It is good, she thinks, to have a day where she can sit long into the morning in her sleep clothes and just enjoy the first signs of spring.
When Keladry of Mindelan enters, she is already dressed for the day and, seemingly, for an important one. Her breeches and tunic are in Mindelan colors, but edged in the silver of one in service to the king. “My lady, I’m riding to the ogre camps on the southern edge. They sent you a letter about expanding their fields last week, Lady, and…”
“Kel,” the older girl interrupts, “you’ve been here helping to keep the peace for a year. You’d think you could call me Maura by now.” She smiles lightly, a smile Kel finds as welcome as the sun.
“You can ask my Lord Raoul, my lady; it takes quite some time before I stop with the formalities.” Only her Yamani training stopped her from smiling.
“Fine. I will have to work on that. But I think you should take the day off, Kel. I certainly am.” The older girl stands from the table. She enjoys the heightened attention Kel gives her as the sheer, butter-yellow robe settles itself better over her night gown. “If you need me, I shall be in my chamber.”
“Of course my…Maura.” The Lady chuckles, liking the idea of being hers.
