Title: Lady of the Lake [2] Rating: G Word Count: 192 Pairing: Kel/Maura Round/Fight: 1/C Summary: Early signs of spark
“You like fire too much.”
Maura murmured sleepily, eyes half closed as she leaned into the small camp fire, with cheerful disregard for the stones and crackling, sweet mast that pressed into her skin. “No such thing.”
Keladry shifted, poking a branch into the flames so they slipped and spluttered, colouring the night with fragile lights. She watched as Dunlath’s lady followed each tiny spark, her eyes dark and entranced, her face, behind all its dense black shadow, bright with wonder. A sharp face: freckled and strong and done no favours by mousy hair kept neat and tight against her head, but blurred into something softer, and very sweet, in the night. She watched flames the way other people watched magic, or listened to stories.
Maura met her eyes, and grinned. “I told you I was good at camping,” she said, reaching to take her large hand in her small, near scorched one.
The small noise Maura made as she did so, and the slow, light pressure of fingers moving up the griffin scarred inside of Kel’s wrist, made the knight wonder what she looked like in firelight to this unexpected friend.
