Title: Stormy Skies Rating: PG Word Count: 242 words Pairing: Kel/Maura Round/Fight: 1/C Summary: Kel and Maura discuss Stormwings
"Tell me your war stories," Maura suggested, lying flat on her stomach in a Dunlath orchard.
Kel, stretched out on her side, was reminded of Dom's comments of the unromantic nature of real war, and how it wasn't what ladies expected to hear. She couldn't help but smile, not having thought she'd be the type to recount war stories to ladies. "War is horrible," she said flatly. "It's dirty, and hard, and painful, even before the fighting starts. Even today, the sight of a Stormwing makes me feel sick."
Maura ducked her head so her hair fell across her face, masking it from view. "Why?"
"You don't understand what they're like," Kel informed her. "They're monsters, vultures, feeding off-"
"They are what they were made," Maura cut in placidly, reaching over to pluck a daisy from the ground. "As are you, and as am I. They cannot help their urges, and you are, I suspect, well aware that they don't usually create the corpses they desecrate. Those who do are the real monsters."
Kel was silent a moment, contemplative, and then said, "It's easier to say that when you haven't seen them."
Maura tucked the flower behind her ear. "Oh, but I have. Yolane invited them onto my fief. They were kind to me, and I remember that - and they remember me. Sometimes they visit, and I'm afraid you will either have to get used to that or take yourself elsewhere."

love this.
What I love even more is the detail about the Stormwings. It is perfect for both of them and just makes me adore this ship all the more. You are brilliant

Oh, the use of Stormwings as a point of contention between them is fascinating - they both have reasons for believing how they do, as Maura found them to be so kind to her while Kel has spent much of her later life on a battlefield where they desecrate bodies. How interesting.
