Title: First Fight
Rating: PG
Word Count: 334 words
Pairing: Kel/Maura
Round/Fight: 1/C
Summary: Kel and Maura have their first argument
They say you don't know what you have until you lose it, but when Kel first comes to the brink of losing Maura, she is fully aware of how large a gap it would leave in her life.
They fought over something ridiculous, but because neither of them are given to flights of temper, a lot of cold words were spoken - things like 'fickle' and 'trapped'. Things neither of them can forget easily.
Kel thinks the best thing for both of them would be if she left, though the words You're always leaving stick in her ears. Leaving might slow the pounding of her heart, though, and if she can just ride fast enough, she might lose the sick feeling in the pit of her stomach.
As she reaches out to push open the door, a voice stops her. Maura's.
"You're going, then."
Kel nods, not trusting herself to speak - not knowing what she would say. She looks back for a moment, intending to fix this place, this lady in her memory.
They say you shouldn't sleep on an argument, and it doesn't look like either of them have. Maura's eyes have shadows almost as dark as bruises underneath. She has clearly tumbled right out of bed - the collar of her dressing gown is crumpled and hidden.
"Don't go," Maura croaks, and Kel nods.
Maura was the one to start the argument, and she is the one to close the distance now, wrapping her arms around Kel and burying her face in Kel's shoulder. Kel can feel the smaller woman tremble against her - or is Kel the one trembling?
"I hear the best part of fighting is the making up," Maura murmurs after a second, and Kel smiles. Maura leads the lady knight to her bedroom, but once there, they simply curl up together, quietly repairing the damage. Maura likes Kel's drive to help others, and Kel likes Maura's dedication to her fief.
Everything will be as it was. Almost.
