Title: Raining Rating: PG Word count: 177 Pairing: Clary/Mattes Round/Fight: 4/A Summary: Clary and Mattes argue sometimes; argument #1. Turn anger into water, let it slip through our hands. (lyrics from Bleed Red by Ronnie Dunn.)
Clary didn’t know what provoked her more, the way that Mattes just stood there as she screamed at him, still and silent against her shaking fury, or perhaps the way that even when she started to run out of things to say, started to regret yelling so loudly, she couldn’t stop.
She ran, when she realized. She ran away, because she couldn’t look him in the eye one more moment and see how he didn’t hate her for yelling.
Clary ignored the way pain tore up her arm as she grabbed the door and slammed it shut behind her, ignored the way that Mattes didn’t yell for her to come back, ignored the way that the words he didn’t say spoke far louder than the ones that she had flung in his face.
A few streets down and over, she stopped, finally feeling the rain pouring down on her face and perhaps imagining the sizzle of those teardrops—not her own, never hers, right?—on her face as they finished cleaning away all remnants of her anger.

That's so very them - for Clary to need to yell at him, and for Mattes to understand and just let her do it.
