Title: Cheering Her Up Rating: PG Word count: 136 Pairing: Clary/Mattes Round/Fight: 4/A Summary: AU: Clary and Mattes get off shift at the precinct in time for some rest and relaxation. Three hundred fifteen channels of nothing but bad news on. (lyrics from Why Don’t We Just Dance? By Josh Turner.)
“This is just going from bad to worse,” Clary groused as she read through the scrolling newsreel at the bottom of the television screen. Mattes glanced at what she was reading, and was unsurprised to see exactly what every other news station had to offer; depressing news about events that they had no control over, here in Clary’s little apartment.
He placed his coffee cup onto the low table in front of the couch and turned to Clary.
“If its only bad news, just turn it off,” he said, covering her hand with his own.
“Cheering me up, Mattes?” Clary raised an eyebrow.
“You haven’t even gotten changed from work,” he pointed out.
“Neither have you,” she returns, looking pointedly at his city police force uniform.
Finally, she’s getting his point.
“We could change that, easy.”
