Title: Use Somebody Rating: G Word Count: 145 Pairing: Kel/Maura – Team Protector Round/Fight: 1C Summary: Kel is avoiding her. Warnings: Character death
Kel is avoiding her. Ever since the funeral, she has never found herself in the same room as the lady knight for more than a brief moment. Maura knows that Kel is giving her room to grieve; every action, every absence, makes it clear that she has no intention of trying to fill the space that Douglass has left behind. Since Kel arrived, Maura has been adamant that she no longer needs a guardian. I am a grown woman, she tells herself. Which makes it so much harder to admit that she is wrong.
It has been years since she has thought of Douglass as her guardian; he was her friend, her father, her everything. Waking up day after day and remembering that he’s gone brings a pain that she has never felt before.
She doesn’t need a guardian. But, perhaps, she needs something else.

Noo, Douglass This is lovely, and painful, and just a little bit hopeful too.

I like that Kel is trying to give her space, even if that's not exactly what Maura wants/needs.

What I like is how Kel knows that if she goes too close to Maura too quickly, she will be a replacement, not an addition. Very sad and touching!
