Title: The Apple Tree Rating: G Word Count: 216 Pairing: Kel/Maura – Team Protector Round/Fight: 1C Summary: It’s an unusual location for a tree.
Kel had never thought herself the type of person to be drawn in by curiosity, but after a long day exploring the castle, she gave in. She found Maura sitting curled up in her study, a book in her lap and her lip caught between her teeth.
“Is there any particular reason why there’s a tree in your tower?” asked Kel, sitting herself down on the floor. The fire crackled brightly beside her, a warm and welcome heat.
Maura didn’t look up from her book. She turned a page. “That would be Tristan.”
Kel nodded, trying not to laugh. “A tree in your tower named Tristan.”
The older girl looked up at her with a smile. “Are you concerned for my sanity?” she asked.
“Should I be?”
“No,” said Maura. “If I were you, I’d be more worried about my own safety. Watch out, or I may turn you into a tree as well.” She wriggled her fingers in imitation of casting a spell, then turned her eyes back to the page in front of her. A tiny smile still tickled the corner of her mouth.
Kel lay down, looking up at the shadows dancing around the ceiling. Being trapped as a tree would not be so bad, she thought, if she was trapped in Dunlath.

LOL, I almost like the idea of Kel as a tree.

Kel would be the most steadfast tree ever. ^__^ I love that Dunlath appears, in this competition, as a little paradise in Tortall.
