Title: The Thing About Beauty Rating: G Word Count: 140 words Pairing: Kel/Maura Round/Fight: 1/C Summary: "Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart." - Kahlil Gibran
-
Kel has always known what it’s like to blend in, to be a part of the background, to be overlooked. She knows what it’s like, and so when she meets plain Maura of Dunlath, it’s a little bit like meeting herself. The pages had been instructed about the regicide attempts by the beautiful Yolane and over the course of their stay, Kel watches the other pages as they offer opinions on how Dunlath should be managed appropriately. When she comes across Maura alone one evening after using the latrine, Maura pauses, waiting for the – unsolicited but now expected – advice on running her fief.
“You are beautiful,” Kel says. “You know the things that matter, and it makes you beautiful.”
Maura offers her a little smile and then they are going their separate ways, but she always remembers –
You are beautiful.

Yay, Jess! I adore this, most especially everything about this line "it’s a little bit like meeting herself".
