Title: Things You Befriend Rating: G Word Count: 136 Pairing: Maura/Kel Fight: 1C Summary: Part of last year’s “A Million Things” series (O/K, K/W); Kel finds a friend when she needs it most.
“I’m sorry for your loss,” Maura whispers, coming up to the open grave. She drops a lily into the ground, and wipes tears out of her eyes. “He was… like an uncle to me.”
Kel nods numbly, clutching her daughter to her breast. This is the twentieth conversation like this today – someone telling her how wonderful her husband was, even though she knows that, and knows she’ll never see him again. Never feel his touch, hear his voice.
Maura places one hand on her shoulder, and Kel is surprised at how comforting it is. No one seems to touch her, not since the news was broken to her. Not since Owen confessed what he’d been hiding during her labor.
“Thank you, Lady Maura,” she whispers. “I don’t think he even knew how much he was loved.”

*whimpers* I adore this moment; it fits so nicely into the convoluted series. I really like how Kel is not consoled until Maura touches her, and then she spills.

"convoluted" is a good word for it. Thank you!

Oh Sadface. But I like the connection Maura has to Kel here.
