Title: Moving Rating: PG Word count: 151 Pairing: Clary/Mattes Round/Fight: 4/A Summary: AU: Clary’s rogue years; arguing with Tom brings out a rebellious streak and she runs off to Port Caynn to get away from it all. Mattes follows, to stand between her and the darkness. Is there any way to recover from this? He knows she’s moving it, knows she’s using it. (lyrics from Dance Floor Anthem—I Don’t Want To Be In Love By Good Charlotte.)
The message left at the Kennel is that Clary’s gone to Port Caynn on a break, but the desk sergeant doesn’t remember her coming in to drop it off, and no one’s seen her since she and Mattes were on Watch together the previous evening.
Mattes really, really doesn’t like the way this looks. No good Dog takes off on a lark.
He doesn’t want to think about Clary; in his mind, she’s one of the best Dogs he knows.
He doesn’t want to think about how young she is; the younger the Dog, the easier it is to learn new tricks. Mattes doesn’t like tricks, and he doesn’t like the Dogs who turn them.
He likes Clary.
He doesn’t want to think about how word’s come from Port Caynn, about the new circle of smugglers that no Dogs can seem to find.
He likes Clary, but he’s very, very worried.

I especially like this sentence, and how well you convey Mattes's conflicting thoughts.
