Title: Tristan's Lament Rating: PG-13 Wordcount: 155 Pairing: Team Protector (Kel/Maura) Round: 1/C Summary: Tristan observes. He observes many things.
At first, being a tree wasn’t so bad. It was restful, at least, with nowhere he needed to be, no appointments to keep — no stress, basically.
It did get dull after a couple of years.
Then it began to get interesting, because Maura — Duchess Maura, he supposed, now that Yolane was out of the picture — took to spending time in the tower. Sometimes she talked to him, condescendingly explaining the improvements she was making to the fief. Very occasionally she raged, furious over past wrongs and present difficulties.
She also mentioned, fairly often, that she wasn’t sure if he could hear her or not. Eventually she grew up and stopped talking to him. She must have concluded that he couldn’t hear — or see, either.
If she suspected the truth, he was sure, she wouldn’t have brought the lady knight to his tower for that.
At least he wasn’t bored now.

Fic from Treestan's POV = total win. The idea of Maura treating him like a person amuses me.
