Title: Sweet Superstition Rating: PG Word Count: 193 words Pairing: Kel/Maura Round/Fight: 1/C Summary: Kel discovers Maura is a little superstitious - and Maura won't believe Kel isn't
"What was that?" Kel asked curiously, watching Maura saluting a magpie.
"Hmm? Nothing," Maura said, a little too lightly. "I think we should head East from here. There's a lovely glen I think you would like."
"Do you salute all your birds, or did he have a special rank?"
Maura coughed, her cheeks turning pink. "It's nothing. Just a small superstition. Like stepping into a room off your left foot, but starting stairs with your right. Or not starting a journey on the fourth day of the month."
Kel shook her head in mild disbelief. "I'm not exactly superstitious."
"No? No lucky tunic which helps you win over the ladies?"
"No ladies," Kel answered, ducking under a branch. "Just you."
She could hear the answering smile in Maura's voice, but apparently this subject was not going to be dropped quite yet. "No lucky loincloth for war?" Maura tried, drawing a giggle from Kel.
"Nothing," she confirmed. "Just me, and my clean, sharp sword."
"No loincloth at all?" Maura enquired. "Perhaps you should take me to war next time."
"Will you be my lucky charm?" Kel asked, amused.
"The luckiest, and the most charming."

^___^ I love their light-heartedness, and the way you use things like Kel's ducking under a branch to set mood as well as location.

I like how they start from such different place on this subject, but still get along really well.

Thank you! I suppose I'm pretty attached to the idea of a little conflict between them now.
