Title: Pack Rating: PG Word Count: 214 Pairing: Kel/Maura Round/Fight: 1/C Summary: Maura has protectors
The Guardian Lady was not Pack. But she was close. The wolves of the Long Lake knew her scent, her sound. She was the two-legger cub that Daine had named safe, who had grown up under their eyes. She had not seem them—that was not two-legger business—but sometimes she looked in the right places, and she kept the ground clean and quiet and right.
And so the wolves of the Long Lake watched, when the new knight came. Big and female and as full of metal and blood as any of her kind, the pack watched her no matter what yattering birds opined above their heads. They watched her as squirrels drew their quick-stupid bodies in to stare; whole the oldest, most enfeebled dog the pack had ever seen slunk around, scenting them while seeing nothing, and certain of Alpha protection.
The metal lady was big, but they were many. And they knew the Guardian Lady watched her, too. They saw her tension. Her scent changed—not Pack, and so unreadable, but clearly a different thing.
Denning, though, was unmistakable. And so Gleamfang--who had come from Eyebrigh,t who had come from Longcry, who had come from Frostfur--told the rest of the Long Lake wolves about the strangeness of two-legger mating.

It is so delightful to see this through the eyes of the pack, particularly their disdain for other animals, and the last line capped this piece off beautifully - loved it!

Telling this through the wolves' eyes is brilliant! I love it.

You've captured the wolves here so perfectly - it's astounding! I love this perspective, and how they view everyone in their environment so...wolfishly.
