Summary: Wyldon visits Dunlath, because Lisa is wonderful
"I heard the lady knight was here again."
Maura threw him an arch look, placing her hands on her hips. "Really, Wyldon, I have not had anybody keeping track of my visitors so closely since Douglass."
His face was unexpectedly gentle, and he took a step towards her - but stopped in his tracks when her arms folded across her chest. "You cannot replace him. She is an active knight in service to the realm, she won't keep you company here."
"Shouldn't you be reminding her of her duty?" Maura asked, a note of bitterness creeping into her voice. "Or is there something else keeping you from doing that?"
Surprise registered on his face, albeit briefly. "She told you."
"Couldn't keep quiet about it," Maura admitted, shrugging. "Even when we were-"
"Doing the sorts of things that young ladies with an attachment to one another do," he supplied, once the pause had stretched out to an uncomfortable degree.
It brought a smile from Maura's face, at last. "Yes. Come, now, Cook has been baking apple tarts all week, awaiting your arrival." She threaded her arm through his, steering him into the next room. "Truth be told, I expected you to come and scold me immediately. I half-thought I'd have to confess all in a letter; I was starting to resemble an apple tart myself."
He placed a comforting hand on her arm, where it linked with his. "I couldn't get away immediately," he said, his voice low. "I didn't come to scold you, in any case. I came because you sounded lonely."
Maura's eyes were overbright, and settled on the ever-empty chair Douglass had always occupied. She drew her arm away from Wyldon. "Well, I promise I won't steal your girl any longer, if you promise to visit more often."
"I would visit regardless."
