Title: Beating Around the Bush Rating: PG Word Count: 213 Pairing: Maura/Kel Fight: 1C Summary: Neal confronts Maura… special thanks to Rosie for the title. “I know this visit was unexpected,” Neal began, wringing his hands. “Sir Nealan,” Maura greeted. “I’m quite grateful for the attention, but isn’t this out of the way for idle chit-chat?” “It’s not idle.” He stepped beyond the threshold of the Dunlath great room, removing his cloak. “Please have a seat,” she said evenly, gesturing to the over-stuffed chairs next to the fireplace; it was her favorite place to do serious business. “You… you have to be good to Kel,” he blurted out as soon as he’d taken a seat. “Or?” Maura raised one eyebrow, an unconscious imitation of her former knight-protector. Neal flushed. “I hadn’t worked out that part yet. If you were a man, I’d probably threaten to thrash you.” “And if I were trained to fight?” she prodded. “Were I Shang or Rider, or perhaps – another lady knight?” “I probably still wouldn’t thrash you,” Neal mumbled. “So you rode all the way out here to tell me you wouldn’t thrash me?” He frowned, looking at the fire for a long time. “She’s my family, and I don’t want to see her hurt.” “I have no intention of doing so. But if it should happen?” He looked up, expectantly, and Maura offered a kind smile before whispering, “You can thrash me.” QC'd by inthefire

Hahaha, you were not supposed to credit me I love Neal here, wringing his hands, and Maura deals with him superbly.
