Title: Waiting Rating: PG Word count: 184 Pairing: Clary/Mattes Round/Fight: 4/A Summary: AU: Clary’s rogue years; arguing with Tom brings out a rebellious streak and she runs off to Port Caynn to get away from it all. Mattes follows, to stand between her and the darkness. Is there any way to recover from this? Everyone has got to do it sometime, it’s okay, let it go. (lyrics from Dance Floor Anthem—I Don’t Want To Be In Love By Good Charlotte.)
Tom doesn’t ask questions, doesn’t say any words at all when Clary walks through the door and sees him waiting there for her. He stands in front of her, and she knows, somewhere behind her, Mattes is standing inside.
Tom always seems to be waiting for her, regardless of whether she’s gone off on her own or if it was heated words between them that drove her away.
“Clary,” he says, just her name, and oh how she’s missed him.
“Tom,” she replies, and in only a few steps she feels his arms come up around her, enclosing her in his embrace.
She has to shift a little before it feels close to familiar again, because Tom’s not quite as tall as Mattes, and he holds her differently—Mattes’ arms are more protective while Tom holds her not-too-tight, as if he’s afraid she’ll run off if he clings.
“You’re home.” Tom breathes his words into her hair, and she shifts, again.
“I’m back,” she tells him, sighing.
Behind Tom is the Jane Street Kennel, and Clary can’t help but think of Mattes waiting inside.

Ooh, I love how you portray Clary's conflict, especially with her saying 'back' instead of 'home' like Tom did!
