Title: Christmas
Rating: PG
Word count: 290
Pairing: Clary/Mattes
Round/Fight: 4/A
Summary: It’s Christmas, and Beka has a present for Clary and Mattes. Set in the DeadAlive universe, where Clary and Mattes are FBI agents. Uh, so is Beka, for the record.
-
I don’t deal too well with Christmas parties. At least not the big ones, the ones that look like they’ve got the entire of Violent Crimes and probably some from Cybercrime down at them. Gershom threw one – he always does every year, and I feel obliged to attend, after all he’s done for me.
This one was far smaller, and at Mattes’ place; Ersken left after a while, with this nurse he’d met when recovering from an injury in the hospital – I think her name was Kora. Most of the people there were from Violent Crimes, and all of them agents I knew from working with Clary and Mattes. Even Ahuda herself popped by for a while, before she left.
Nyler and Yoav were the last to leave – I’d heard of them. Clary’d spent her rookie year working with them. I stayed behind. I thought I owed it to Mattes to help clean up, and God knows I’ve done enough of that, cleaning up after my siblings, anyway.
When I found them, I realised Nyler and Yoav weren’t the only ones who were more than just a little hammered. Most of the lights were dimmed; I was seeing by the twinkling lights of the small Christmas tree that Mattes had put up in his house. And as I watched Clary sleep, head pillowed against Mattes’ shoulder, the two of them completely peaceful, happy, and unaware –
Well, maybe I had a present for my two mentors, after all. Something truly meaningful.
I saluted the two of them, with the half-drunk cup of spiced eggnog that I was still carrying. “Merry Christmas,” I whispered, and finished the rest of it. Then I went off to clear up the detritus of the party.
