Title: Rookie
Rating: PG
Word count: 277
Pairing: Clary/Mattes
Round/Fight: 4/A
Summary: Clary and Mattes get their first rookie. They’re not very happy about it. Set in the DeadAlive universe, where Clary and Mattes are FBI agents. Based on a quote from the X-Files.
WARNING: mild swearing.

Anyone who wants to mess with Kebibi Ahuda, in my opinion, is probably tired of living. Assistant Director Ahuda is infamous (right after Clary) as one of the toughest sonofabitches in the FBI. Or daughter, in their cases.
So Clary’s the one to protest when Ahuda tells is we’ve been given a rookie, fresh out of Quantico. This is Violent Crimes; this isn’t kindergarten. We get a rookie who is any less than up to scratch, and she’ll probably get herself killed, working with us. We don’t do things by halves, Clary and I.
Ahuda tells us to take it to Acton, which means that either Section Chief Acton has it out for us, or Gershom’s got his hands in the pie. I take Clary aside, and tell her that this is Gershom’s ward we’re talking about. This Beka Cooper’s a good one, Gershom’s mentioned, and if that’s the case, we don’t stand a chance.
We enter Acton’s office, anyway, for the first time in almost fourteen years – for the rookie talk. The one where we get told we’re not allowed to dent, scratch, or kill our rookies – in any way.
“Sir,” I ask, carefully, “Have I pissed you off in a way that’s more than normal?”
Way to lodge a protest, Clary’s expression is saying. She lets out an audible groan.
Acton doesn’t blink. “You’re long due for a rookie,” he says, with the bluntness that Clary would have appreciated, if she wasn’t on the receiving end. “Don’t hurt her, remember you’re supposed to look out for her, give me a credible agent at the end of her tenure. Dismissed.”
I take that as a yes.
