Title: Mentors Rating: PG Word count: 225 Pairing: Clary/Mattes Round/Fight: 4/A Summary: Beka thinks about her two mentors, Clary and Mattes. Set in the DeadAlive universe, where Clary and Mattes are FBI agents.

Sometimes, I think Clary and Mattes confuse most of Violent Crimes. I think Clary has something for Mattes, the way she softens when he talks to her, the way she lets him talk her into things, the way sharp-tongued, no-nonsense Senior Special Agent Clary Goodwin puts up with all of Mattes’ quirks and his little habits.
He’s Easygoing Mattes, which means he gets along with just about any agent they’ve given him, yet I’ve seen how sharp he turns when he thinks someone’s trying to hurt me or Clary. Especially Clary. I’ve seen the way he treats her; not like any of the women he flirts with, but then Mattes comes back to Clary, and I don’t just mean because they’ve got to work together. And that says a lot more than any of the series of names – all women he dated briefly, but none of them stuck around.
In the end, he always comes back to Clary, and when I see the way the two of them move, the way Clary smiles, the way Mattes is tentatively reaching out to her, not like the way he flirts outrageously with some other women –
I think I see what Gershom sees in them. And then I think I know that the two of them fit perfectly, even if they won’t come right out and say it.

Eee! I love how obvious they both are, even if they don't realise it themselves.
