“It’s still not changing colour,” Mattes said. An edge of irritation was starting to creep into his voice, and Clary couldn’t blame him. She was short on sleep last night due to an emergency at the lab, and right now, all Clary wanted was for Mattes to finish the experiment so they could get out of here and she could get some sleep. The thing was, there was very little titrant left in the burette and Clary couldn’t help but frown. Something was wrong here.
“Where did you get the titrand from?” Clary wanted to know.
Mattes frowned. “Here,” he said slowly, lifting up the bottle of the titrant. “Just like you told me to.”
“No, titrand, Mattes. Where did you get the titrand from?”
“It’s the same thing, isn’t it?”
Clary resisted the urge to hit her head against the desk. Why me? she wanted to ask, except it would never to do say it in front of Zahir, who was watching her with innocent perplexity. “Start again,” she ground out. “Your titrand shouldn’t be the same as your titrant. That’s why it isn’t changing colour – you’re pouring the same thing into the same thing.”
“Ooops,” Mattes quipped.
