Summary: Tom knows.
Tom watched Clary gently stroke her growing belly, her callused hands slowly caressing the bare skin. The soft smile on her lips was enough to break his heart.
Tom looked away, turning back to his work.
He knew it had to be Tunstall's child, he knew it in his heart.
The other man's absence would have been enough to make him suspicious. He was never around, and Clary never spoke of him. Not anymore. Time was he couldn’t get Clary to talk of anything but her Mattes and her work, and now...
They must have had a falling out... over Clary's pregnancy? Did Tunstall know the child was his?
Clary seemed so convinced it was Tom's child, and she was never any good at lying to him, though the Gods knew she tried often enough. She really seemed to believe it was her husband’s child.
But Tom knew; it was not his baby growing in his wife's belly. It never would be. Tom was infertile, and had been since birth.
