KM R3: Those Who Serve (5), PG Rating: PG Word Count: 216 Pairing: Kel/Maura Round/Fight: 3/B Summary: Those that serve often have a different perspective on things. Salma They had met, or so I am told, when Lady Kel was still one of my wards, running wild in the northlands with the training masters riding herd. Maura was fifteen, her last summer of freedom before the Lady Minch dragged her away to learn decorum and coquettishness, those tools of the court lady. Would that she had learned discretion, perhaps this all would have turned out a bit better. We’re trained to be invisible. I train my girls to be invisible. This has its advantages and disadvantages, but usually being forgotten outweighs the risks of being remembered. Still, being invisible makes you more aware. Seldom do things escape our attention, and when surrounded by your betters it can prove useful to notice things overlooked. The servants had been whispering for days about the way the Lady Knight had been hanging about the visitor’s wing. I don’t often listen to the gossip of slack jawed fools. People talk just to hear the beauty of their own voices, and we servants talk more than most. Still, the gaping of idiots is one thing, but I know Keladry of Mindelan, watched her moon over Queenscove for three full years. I took her lad aside one day, and bade him tread heavily before he opened her door. QC: by Cassandra
