Title: End of Days Rating: PG Word Count: 195 words Pairing: Kel/Maura Round/Fight: 3/B Summary: Kel and Maura watch the sun setting Warning: past character death
The clouds hung heavy on the horizon, a strip of bare sky visible beneath them. Kel shivered as a mountain wind rushed over them, and Maura smiled and pulled her closer.
"This was my mother's favourite place to come," she murmured, looking out at the sunset. "She loved this fief as much as my father did."
"What was she like?" Kel asked gently, watching the sun's last rays light up the lowest clouds.
Maura shrugged, leaning her head against Kel's shoulder, effectively hiding her expression. "I don't really remember her. Yolane always said I was similar to her. I doubt she meant that as a compliment, but I like the idea that I resemble her in some way. It makes death seem less final."
Kel turned her head to press her lip against Maura's hair. "I'm sure she'd be proud of how you turned out, whatever she was like."
Maura was silent a long time after that, and Kel wondered if she had said the wrong thing. The sun had almost vanished beneath the horizon, but they didn't need the light right then, entwined as they were. Finally, Maura said, "I like to think so."

This is simply gorgeous, and I think you have a masterful way of creating and easing tension within a story. <3 I love it!

Thank you! (for the lovely comment and the fact that I wouldn't have finished this without discussing it with you!)
