Title: Understanding Rating: PG Word Count: 205 Pairing: Kalasin/Wyldon Fight: 1/C Summary: Wyldon understands in ways that Jon can't. A series where Wyldon and Kalasin struggle with the idea of duty.
Wyldon is putting away the chess set from his and Myles’s chess game when there is a soft knock on the door. He opens it to find Kalasin standing there; she curtsies as soon as he opens the door.
“Your highness, come in,” says Wyldon, bowing. “Is there something you wished to see me about?”
Kalasin fidgets slightly, and Wyldon has to remind himself, that despite everything, she is still only ten years old, and just barely that. “I just wanted to ask you something, sir.”
“Of course,” he says, gesturing at the chair. “Please sit down.”
Kalasin sits. “I just had some questions about duty, sir, and what- what it really means.”
Wyldon frowns slightly. “Shouldn’t you be asking your father?”
Kalasin shakes her head, very firmly. “No, sir. He might be the king- but he just doesn’t understand.” She stands up, incensed. “Of course he gets to train as a knight and of course he falls in love with the most beautiful woman in the entire world and of course she falls head over heels for him and of course she’s already a princess, so he can marry her and live happily-ever-after. Papa’s never had to sacrifice for anything. You have. You understand.”

The understanding you've created between them, the mentoring relationship, is absolutely wonderful to read.
