Title: Practical Decisions Rating: PG Word Count: 232 pairing: Kalasin/Wyldon Fight: 1C Summary: Just why was Kally sent to King’s Reach, anyway?
“I don’t want to go to King’s Reach,” I said petulantly. I felt like stomping my feet, which I knew wasn’t the best way for a princess to get her way - but there was something about my mother that brought out the worst in me.
She sighed and looked at me, that look that all mothers learn at some point. It says I’m so disappointed in you and I can see through everything you say and do and a million other things that only mothers say with any weight. “You don’t have a choice in this matter.”
“I can’t believe you read my diary.” I crossed to my bureau, pulling out all my stockings and throwing them in the trunk she was packing. I might’ve stomped, just a little bit. Mothers aren’t supposed to read diaries. They’re supposed to want to, but control themselves and respect their daughters’ privacy.
“I can’t believe you would swoon over a man like that.”
“Lord Wyldon is--”
“Too old for you. Married.” Mother had her firm voice - the one she uses when she argues with father and we know she’s going to get her own way. “Not interested in you.”
I tossed my head. “And that’s why sending me away is pointless.”
She smiled, but it wasn’t a friendly smile. “Not if he changes his mind before you do.”

Oh, Kally. I can just see this. And the ending makes me wonder about Thayet/Wyldon. Lovely fic to start the tourney.

I love Thayet being a fierce mother, and not getting along with Kalasin. And the hint that she doesn't believe Wyldon is as honourable as all that (because of all men, or because of him himself - interesting).

Oooh, I love this and its myriad of implications. Your Kally voice is also excellent.

Thank you, everyone. Writing the Kally-Thayet dynamic was a pleasant surprise.

Great use of first person! And I also started thinking about Thayet/Wyldon implications

Thanks! I think it's funny because this is among the few times I didn't *think* of Thayet/Wyldon implications. But you're free to run in that direction, as I rather like it most times.
