Title: Understanding
Rating: G
Word Count: 294
Pairing: Kalasin/Wyldon
Round/Fight: 1/C
Summary: “But you’re just a boy; you don’t understand and you don’t understand how it feels to love a girl. Sometimes you wish you were a better man, you don’t listen to her and you don’t care how it hurts until you lose the one you wanted cause you’re taking her for granted and everything you had got destroyed. But you’re just a boy.”: (“If I Were a Boy”—as sung by Reba McEntire. Part 7.)
“It’s quite pleasant here,” Kally comments, knowing that any attempt at small talk is bound to fail when the Tortallan vessel is set to sail in only a few short hours.
“It is,” Wyldon agrees, unable to help but notice how different she already looks in the garb of the Carthaki court, where the bright colors almost hide her famous blue eyes.
“Will you watch them, for me?” her voice is hesitant, and Kally turns to look at Wyldon. She can still imagine him like she was told he was that day, white and pinched and bleeding but still hushing Vania and holding Lianne close until help arrived.
She’s never forgotten.
Wyldon blinks at the question and at the wistful light in her eyes and hopes he can live up to the man she believes him to be.
“Yes.”
Kally smiles. “Thank you.”
“Oh, there you are, Princess Kalasin!” The new voice is too sudden, too loud in this small sitting room where so many words unspoken weigh down the air. Kaddar paused in the doorway, seeing the personal nature of the apparent conversation inside.
“I should see if the delegation is quite ready,” Wyldon excuses himself as he stands, and both Kally and Kaddar’s eyes watch him leave.
“…Um, Princess, was I interrupting something?” Kaddar hesitates, but Kally shakes her head, and Kaddar moves to take Wyldon’s vacated chair.
“We were just talking of home,” Kally assures him, not catching Kaddar’s slight wince at the word ‘home’.
Kaddar leans forward, unsure of the distant expression on her face, and offers, “Perhaps, sometime, you can tell me of it?”
“…But you’re just a boy…”
And something about Kaddar’s expression falls into confusion as Kally turns away before her face can give away the pain.
