Title: A Matter of Choice Rating: G Word Count: 163 Pairing: Team Courtly Love (Kalasin/Wyldon) Round/Fight: 1/C Summary: Kalasin chose her husband, but not really.
-----
Thayet knocked on the door twice, and when she received no answer either time, she gently opened it herself. The room was pitch-black, but the corridor light spilled onto a prone body on the bed.
“Kalasin,” she whispered.
Her daughter did not stir, and the queen moved forward to sit gingerly on the edge. “Kalasin,” she repeated.
“I chose,” Kally whispered. “I chose, but I didn’t want any of them.”
“I know, love,” Thayet said. She laid down next to her and wrapped her arms around her. “I know. It is, perhaps, the greatest price of being a princess.”
Kally began to weep. “There was only one man I wanted,” she sobbed. “Papa wouldn’t let me be a knight, and he wouldn’t let me choose my husband, and now I have nothing for my own.”
Oh, darling, Thayet thought, but said nothing. Telling her grieving daughter that Wyldon was married anyway, and would not break that vow, would do nothing to help.

Oh, that's so sad. Kalasin seems so little in this, but so old at the same time.

Thank you - that's exactly the effect I was hoping for!
