Title: Walking
Rating: PG
Word Count: 375
Pairing: Gary/Raoul – Team Moustache Curtains
Round/Fight: 1/E
Summary: As one knot comes loose, another tightens.
Gary kicked a stone along as he meandered through the palace gardens. He was annoyed and hurt. He had nothing to do (or rather, nothing he felt like doing), now that his friend had ditched him. They had been close - best friends, even. Gary had shown him around the castle, and the city, and had helped him in other ways. Now he had moved on, his focus was elsewhere. He had a new best friend, and Gary missed both of them. It was fine, usually. It was only natural, considering. Still, Gary had hoped to spend the occasional afternoon together. They were growing apart. Gary knew it, even if the other boy seemed not to have noticed. He gave his stone a hard punt, sending it airborne. “Ow!” Looking ground-wards, Gary hadn’t noticed anyone around; he looked up, startled, to see Raoul rubbing his head and scowling. “Mithros, Gary! What did I ever do to you?”
“Ah, sorry Raoul. I didn’t realise you were there.”
“No kidding. What are you doing here? I thought you were going into Corus with Alan today?”
“He forgot. He’s gone off with Jon instead.”
“Again?”
“Yeah.”
“Those two…I hardly see either of them anymore…"
“I know.”
“Yeah, I miss them too. Hey...I was going down to Raven Armoury, then I’m free for the rest of the day. Do you want to ride down to the city with me? At the very least you can buy me a drink for kicking a rock at my head.”
“Alright, but if anything, you owe me the drink for setting Master Oakbridge on me the other night.”
“I thought your table manners could use improving, that’s all. I was helping. Don’t be so ungrateful. You should buy me a meal as well, to make up for it.”
“How dare you? My table manners are impeccable. You just wanted him off your back for spilling your leftover soup down that Stone Mountain girl’s bodice. Don’t think I don’t know what you were up to with that!”
“That was an accident!”
“No, really, I admire your aim.”
Without really noticing, they had begun to make their way toward Corus, without getting their horses. There was more opportunity to talk if they went on foot.
